Open position MEP: Study of quantum algorithms realized via quantum walks

The general focus of this theoretical MEP project is a study of properties of quantum walks, that are possible to implement on condensed matter platforms or NISQ devices. Such quantum walks could become a platform for real-world implementation of Grover’s algorithm and related quantum algorithms, that require less quality of devices than full-scale quantum computers.

The workflow will include:

  • Analysis of time evolution of quantum walks;
  • Eigenvector decompositions of dense and sparse matrices;
  • Study of quasi-bound (trapped) states and scattering of waves on them.
  • Possible study of modern condensed matter devices that could host quantum walks.

The requirements for students are to be familiar with python programming language and basic usage of libraries – numpy, scipy. During the project, the study of specific simulation tools is possible – like sparse matrices, or kwant library.
