Minor Courses

There is a vibrant community of scientists and engineers at TU Delft working on quantum technologies, who will help you to unravel the magical world of quantum physics.

Auxiliary fields such as mathematics, computer science and electrical engineering are covered, always with an eye to their application within quantum science and information. In a group project at the end of the minor you will work on applications in quantum technology, concerning software or hardware.

Mathematics for Quantum Physics

In this class, we start laying the foundation for understanding quantum technology and teach you the math necessary to follow courses on quantum mechanics. You can learn about coordinate systems, complex numbers, Fourier transforms, linear algebra including Hilbert spaces, second-order differential equations.

Quantum Communication and Computation

The course introduces central topics in quantum communication and quantum computing. During the course, you acquire basic knowledge about the underpinning theoretical aspects of quantum communication and computation, and you learn how to solve simple problems based on quantum mechanical aspects such as superposition and entanglement.

Quantum Sensing and Measurement

Learn to calculate power spectral density and the sensitivity of a measurement. The course begins with a review of the (classical) concepts of sensitivity, noise, and power spectral density. In the second part of the course, we introduce quantum noise and quantum sensing and explore the standard quantum limit (SQL) of sensing and measurement.

Solid-State Quantum Bits

The course covers two subjects: Semiconductor Quantum Bits (TN3166-A) and Superconductor Quantum Bits (TN3166-B). We explore the challenges and opportunities of semiconductor quantum bits and learn how to solve elementary problems in quantum information. In the second part of the course, we cover the phenomenological theory of superconductors, Josephson junctions, devices, quantum circuits and cavities.
