Why did you choose a master’s course in quantum?

“I was always fascinated by the idea of quantum computers but never knew anything about them. When searching for information about how they function, you will mostly find information on how to create a superposition, but it never really gives you a full understanding of the concept. That’s why I took the course Fundamentals of Quantum Information: I wanted to learn more about the functioning and the power of a quantum computer.”

What was the course Fundamentals of Quantum Information like?

“The course started with an explanation of the basics of quantum physics and the formulation of different properties. On this basic information, it built further towards the different quantum computing algorithms and how they work. At that point I really started to grasp the idea about the power of a quantum computer and it got me really interested!”

What was your main take-away of the course?

“The most important thing for me was the realisation at the end of the course that quantum computers aren’t pure magic; they are an amazing feat of engineering. It is a field that I certainly wanted to explore more. Therefore, I also attended the course Quantum Cryptography and I am currently taking the course on Quantum Hardware. When I started, I had absolutely no idea of how quantum computers worked; now I want to know everything about it.”
